Rechargeable Battery recycling
At the Rock Springs Landfill we recycle all types of rechargeable batteries up to 25 pounds

Why you shouldn't throw away rechargeable batteries
Rechargeable batteries being disposed of in your trash or dumped into a landfill are a bad combination. When batteries are compacted in a landfill, they can be punctured. Once punctured these rechargeable batteries enter a state which is called thermal runaway. In thermal runaway these batteries smoke and release toxic gasses and often times catch on fire. Once this process is started it is very difficult to stop it and the battery burns until there is no fuel left. So if thermal runaway happens in the middle of the landfill it can have devastating consequences including lighting the whole disposal cell and possibly heavy equipment on fire. This is why we ask you to please recycle these batteries and do not throw them away.
